Guide to Dental Hygienist Schools

A dental hygienist is often the first person a dental patient has contact with beyond the receptionist. Hygienists are responsible for cleaning teeth and preparing a patient for the dentist’s exam.

A high school diploma, along with passing scores for a college entrance exam, is required to obtain the schooling necessary for a career in this field. There are specialized schools and dental colleges which offer this program. Training usually takes a year to complete.

In addition to educational requirements, dental hygienists also are required to be licensed in the state in which they plan to practice.
